Was 'gangsta' rap really what it meant to be?!

Question: Was 'gangsta' rap really what it meant to be!?
Back in the day, 'gangsta' rap was meant to cease gang violence and crime particularly on the West Coast, but looks like people took that serious and has gotten worse over the years!?

Does anyone else thing 'gangsta' rap was it meant to cease crime and violence!? Or am I the only one!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think people overlook the fact that rap and gangsta rap didn't just come from nowhere and become mainstream overnight, just like every other form of music didn't come from nowhere and become popular instantly!.

To think that gangsta rap went away because it "went mainstream" is kind of silly!. Of course it went mainstream - it got popular, people wanted to hear it, and the people singing it could enchance their lifestyle by singing it!.

It's not that they sold out, it's that the genre evolved from street kids wanting to do something positive, and this being one of their few options, to a form of entertainment that anyone with a talent to perform it could benefit from!. Unfortunately this also means that people who lack any talent and have no business in the business (*cough Soulja Boy *cough*) can come in and give it a go as well, but such is a free market!.

I won't deny that I really enjoyed gangsta rap from the early 90s, the Death Row Records era music, and to this date I prefer it over much of the current offerings, but there's still a lot of great rap out there right now!. If you listen to a large assortment of rap you'll find some great gangsta songs here and there, but unfortunately the days of having lots of choices of entire albums filled with gangsta rap tracks are gone!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think gangsta rap just started as an outlet for rappers who had any sort of affiliation with street gangs, whether their message be positive or negative!. However, none of that matters any more!. The true spirit and essence of rap went right out the window as soon as it went mainstream!. It's sad really!. It seems that if you want a hit these days, all you have to do is introduce a new dance!. Whatever happened to lyrics with an actual message, and not all about cars, cash, clubs, and hoes!. People don't care these days, all they care about is shaking their a**Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think 'gangsta' rap was meant to make bling $$$ pure and simple!. You'd be surprised how many suburban white kids listen to it!. At its core it's supposed to be a commentary about violent inner-city life not meant to coerce anyone!. People have the brains to make their own choices, it's just another thing for the clueless fossils in Congress to squabble over!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
