Why are people so persistent when it comes to saying bands "sold out?"!

Question: Why are people so persistent when it comes to saying bands "sold out!?"!?
After all they would have never became famous if their music wasn't good!. When they become famous then people want t-shirts and other crap!. Then when they fill this request they are called "sell outs!."

Then another example is when the band changes their sound a bit because their creative influences changed!. This creates a new audience base and alienates the old fans and then they are labled as "sell outs" again!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i agree with you!.!.the only true case of selling out i can think of is when Kiss put out "i was made for loving you" off their disco album--now thats truly selling out--being a rock band and all of a sudden disco is big so lets put out a disco album!.!.!.to the person above me--METALLICA IS NOT A CLASSIC CASE OF SELLING OUT---jeez, i dont have long hair anymore like i did in the 80's why should i expect them to!.!.-i dont listen to or play super heavy music as much anymore--why should i expect them to--its CALLED THEY GOT OLDER AND GREW UP--they're not drunk, angry 20 year old's anymoreWww@Enter-QA@Com

It annoys me too!. Often as soon as a band becomes more popular, the screams of "sellout!" are gurled at them!. Sometimes people just realise that a band is good, sometimes it has nothing to do with changing their sound!. and bands have to change their sound: it would be boring if they made the same album over and over again!.

That said, sometimes bands do sell out!. If a band becomes more mainstream simply for the purpose of aquiring new fans to get more money, then I would call a band a sellout!. But just because a band has become more mainstream doesn;t always mean that they're doing it for the money; sometimes that's just the direction that their music is heading towards as a natural progression!.

I would think long and hard before ever calling a band a sellout!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no, being good and getting famous has nothing to do with being a sellout!. There is a natural progression a artist takes there style will change but the core remains the same!. The way Zepplin Progressed from the brit-blues style to there eastern-celtic infused rock was cool not selling out!. Look at Metallica Kings of the underground metal then the 90's came around and they Released Load after a five year hiatus they cut there hair dressed like pimps and tried to be grunge rock!.!.!.!.!.that was selling out!. That was the tip of the Iceberge then they began to sue fans, "for stealing food from there table"!.!.!.!.Now they are trying to sell there CD on Line like RadioHead and Saul Williams, NIN!.!.!.!.Metallica is the CLASSIC CASE FOR SELLING OUTWww@Enter-QA@Com
