Good Rock Band Definition: A band that withstands the tests of time!. A Band that to this day has people arguing whether they were the best or not!. A Band that revolutionized Rock and Roll!. A band that will never die!.!.!.!.

A band where you can differentiate each instrumental!. Many rock bands put too much on the bass, or too much on the vocals, and it covers up the lead guitar or side intrumentals!. I love finding rock bands that balance each section out, so you get a variety of sounds instead of all bass or unclear vocals, etc!.
Rock bands that put meaning into their songs do well with me too!. You know the band is for real when they write a song about their past experiences or a lesson statement!. Not that I'm a HUGE Nickelback fan, but a great example of this would be their writing of "If Everyone Cared!."
Rock songs are also a lot better if you can sing to them, and if they make you want to get up and move around!. When you're in your car and a song pops up that makes your foot do a steady beat, you know you've got a good song!.

Oh and as far as my favorite rock band goes, that is definitely a tough one!. SubmerseD is a great band that I recently came across, but unfortunately they just broke up!. I admire their lead guitarist though, as he stuck it out for as long as he could, and tried making it with another member even after the others left!.

-Honestly, lyrics get a majority of people out of tough situations!. And if you're comparing rock band's lyrics to rap, the majority of the lyrics are about having sex and drinking!.

-No one likes a grump, right!? For instance, Paramore is extremely down to earth and like every other normal citizen that you'll see on your streets!. It also shows that they're just making music for themselves && fun, instead of just the fame and money!. Young age is a bonus, too!.

A group of musicians, including masters of various instruments (notably the guitar and drums) and a dynamic singer (doesn't have to be Pavarotti, but must have an interesting voice), who create music defined by BOTH technical wizardry and from-the-heart lyrics and melodies!.
My favorite band is Radiohead!. Their music always moves and fascinates me!. Thom Yorke is my favorite singer and Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien inspired me to purchase and begin learning how to play the guitar!.

They need to have TALENT!. That is the most important thing, next comes intelligence!. If they don't have the smarts to write at least catchy lyrics, they aren't a good band!. FInally, they need to be honest, no lip-syncing or other people writing songs for them!.

A good Rock band plays songs which contain substance and are not about teenage love, death or suicide!. A good rock band doesn't do over the top videos (GNR exception)!.
All members can fuse as 1, GNR in prime prove that, can play live and put on a show without too much confetti, etc!. Iron Maiden show this!.

It's the same for ANY band of any genre I think:
Their songs are unique and eloquent!. They have their own 'feel' and a bucket-load of talent!. Their songs make you feel how you're meant to feel when listening to them!.
My favourite band is 'Foo Fighters'!. Their songs are all different, and their more expressive ones such as 'Best Of You', 'Times Like These', and 'Everlong' really get their points across =)
