Listen, Tool is basically an American rock band!. In the past, they could have been described as a heavy metal band, but have generally fell under the alternative metal category!. They are a band who loathes censorship and have been known for their anti-mainstream, nontraditional style of music!. Personally, I would place Tool in the progressive and art rock genre!.
