Some definitions:

country music---a form of popular music which derives from the rural folk music of the southeastern and southwestern U!.S!., characterized by string-band instrumentation
The term country and western music was adopted by the music industry in 1949 to replace the derogatory hillbilly music!. Its roots lie in the music of the European settlers of the Appalachians and other areas!. In the early 1920s the genre began to be commercially recorded; Fiddlin' John Carson recorded its first hit!. Radio programs such as Nashville's Grand Ole Opry and Chicago's National Barn Dance fueled its growth, and growing numbers of musicians, such as the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, began performing on radio and in recording studios!. With the migration of Southern whites to industrial cities in the 1930s and '40s, country music was exposed to new influences, such as blues and gospel music!. Its nostalgic bias, with its lyrics about poverty, heartbreak, and homesickness, held special appeal during a time of great population shifts!. In the 1930s "singing cowboy" film stars, such as Gene Autry, altered country lyrics to produce a synthetic "western" music!. Other variants include western swing (see Bob Wills) and honky-tonk (see Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams)!. In the 1940s there was an effort to return to country's root values (see bluegrass), but commercialization proved a stronger influence, and in the 1950s and '60s country music became a huge commercial enterprise!. Popular singers often recorded songs in a Nashville style, while many country music recordings employed lush orchestral backgrounds!. Country music has become increasingly acceptable to urban audiences, retaining its vitality with diverse performers such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris, and Lyle Lovett!. Despite the influence of other styles, it has retained an unmistakable character as one of the few truly indigenous American musical styles!.

Other instruments sometimes utilized in rock include saxophone, harmonica, violin, flute, French horn, banjo, melodica, and timpani!. also, less common stringed instruments such as mandolin and sitar are used!. bluegrass--Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music!. It has its own roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music!. Bluegrass was inspired by the music of immigrants from the British Isles (particularly the Scots-Irish immigrants in Appalachia), as well as that of rural African-Americans, jazz, and blues!. In bluegrass, as in jazz, each instrument takes a turn playing the melody and improvising around it, while the others revert to backing; this is in contrast to old-time music, in which all instruments play the melody together or one instrument carries the lead throughout while the others provide accompaniment!. Bluegrass is distinctively acoustic, rarely using electrical instruments!.

See now, the music on country radio today is geared more toward making money/sales and getting a person's 15 minutes of fame, but mostly to make money--not toward singing about a heartache, family crisis, national crisis, or just basic life!. The powers that be Try to make the music sound like it does this but they aint doin' a very good job of it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Country music has changed along with the artists that sing it just like any other music that evolves from the heart of those that write and sing it!. Most country songs come from life experiences, relationships and love!. Those can either be good or bad, which ever you choose to tell a story about!. Country music and ballads are kinda related to each other and pop music is all about the beat, the excitement and the moment!.

A good country song in my opion would be something by Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard, George Straight, or Randy Travis!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Country is more honest I guess you could say, its real people singing about hardships and love and telling their stories, which end up being a lot of peoples stories!. Country has twang to it, which unfortunately is missing in some new music, almost all songs are acoustic, or could be!. But to define country you just gotta feel it really, for me its this down to earth storytelling that I connect with, its not like those songs where you have no idea what their saying, or if you do, the songs dont make you feel- country music for me, makes me feel!. One way to describe the country vibe is through Trace Adkins song "Songs About Me"Www@Enter-QA@Com
