PANTERA IS THE BEST F****** METAL BAND IN THE WORLD!. phenomenal metal band, their music was very intense, it really made you feel there more to the songs than just what you were listening to, dimebag easily one of the greatest guitarist to live and the metal genre was blessed to have him,(and his brother i!.e!.vinnie paul (drummer)) and phil could sing great (cemetary gates)and on top of being as good as they are, they were a good live act as well!. basically i think they played metal that a lot more than just metal heads could relate to!.
The band officially broke up in 2003, also the year when their "Best of:" compilation album was released (on September 23), when the Abbott brothers concluded that Anselmo had abandoned Pantera and would not return!. (He was engaged in numerous side projects!.) This is when the Abbott brothers realized the band was truly over!.The break-up of the band was not amicable and subsequently a war between the former bandmates was waged via the heavy metal and musical press!. The Abbott brothers and Pantera crew members claimed that they tried numerous times to contact Anselmo over the phone to reorganize Pantera, but Anselmo maintains that they never called him!. Caught up in the torrent was Rex Brown, who later said "It was a bunch of he said, she said nonsense that was going on, and I wasn't going to get in the middle of it!."Abbott and his brother, Vinnie Paul Abbott, left Pantera to form Damageplan!. Anselmo's comment in a 2004 issue of Metal Hammer magazine saying that "Dimebag deserves to be beaten severely" typified Pantera's internal conflicts; Anselmo insists that this comment was tongue-in-cheek!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think the Abbott's were looking for an excuse and Anselmo's penchant for being in 10 bands helped them make the decision!.
They were no more YEARS before Dime was killed!.!.!.and there remained a great deal of animosity between Anselmo and the others!.!.!.hence, Anselmo having to sit in his hotel room during the funeral!.
Interpersonal relationships can be a real bitchkitty when the folks involved are stubborn and can be even worse when they involve successful enterprises!.

no, everyone so far is wrong, because phil anselmo and the abbott brothers(dimabag and vinnie) were having weird problems!.!.!.!. phil and rex would be in louisiana and the abbotts would be in texas,, they would accuse each other of not answering and returining calls (at the same time phil was doing side projects with Down and his louisiana buddies)etc!.!.!.!.!.!. and then when dimebag passed away that sealed the deal
