I don't know what kind of guitar you have (a 2-humbucek hollow-body, archtop would be ideal - Ibanez has killer models), but generally, you need a darker, meaty and perfectly clean tone for traditional jazz guitar - any article will tell the same!. Buy strings that start with at least !.011 (the thin E) and try to practice even all the way up to !.013 - thicker strings give you more sound, more mids and more volume!. Switch the guitar so you use the pickup close to the neck, as the sound there is stronger and darker!. Turn the tone control down, so you play with the deeper, darker tone with fewer highs and less brightness!. Fender tube amps are very good for their clean sound, but they might be out of your pay scale; I find my $500 Tech-21 to be a great alternative, but you can also look at some smaller tube Epiphones or the VERY affordable BlackHeart (music123!.com, for example)!. Any amp with good clean sounds will do, and then listen to Pat Metheny, George Benson (both Ibanez players, BTW) and Wes Montgomery to get the reference sound - if you can get their sound, you're ON!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

heres a great article with many tips:Www@Enter-QA@Com
