No!. Punk and Pop Punk are two different genres :)
Pop Punk has more catchy hooks!. Take a look at the Buzzcocks and the Descendents for a bit!. They are Pop Punk!.

I disagree, although no one likes to admit it, pop/punk IS a subgenre of Punk, it's the fusion of punk and pop music!. I personally really like it, and if you really listen it DOES contain some elements of punk, for example many pop/punk songs feature repetitive palm-muted power chords!.

I think the moron part is correct!. Punk always had a social and political tone to it!. Punk alway had something to say that even if you disagreed with the point, you respected the message!. Holiday in the Sun, Anarchy in the UK, God Save the Queen, London Calling, Pull My STrings, Blank Generation, and others had something to say!. Now its all about image and record sales!. And any of the "punk-pop" that get political now, its just for sales!. Before Green Day's "American Idiot" album, their songs consisted of masturbation and getting high!. Not that I am against either, but its not a meaninful message!.
