With hits like 'Come Sail Away', 'Renegade', 'Too Much Time On My Hands', 'Blue Collar Man', 'Fooling Yourself', 'Best of Times', 'Mr!. Roboto', 'Babe' and 'Lady', they have a catalog that few bands can match!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

& those are just the hits!. They did PLENTY of great lesser-known songs that get little to no airplay!.
Suite Madame Blue, Grove of Eglantine, Put Me On, Best Thing, etc etc!.!.!.Their early work is VERY Yes-influenced!. I suppose they don't get much credit b/c they generally aren't seen as groundbreakers!. They were enormous for a couple of years in the late 70s & then it was downhill from there!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think they get shortchanged because their ballads are just plain bad and because Dennis deYoung evolved into a Vegas Act!.

On the other hand, The Grand Illusion is one of the top 10 albums by an American artist and Paradise Theater was quite strong and they rock in concert, even today!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The reason for this is that they were a wimpy glam-rock band!. Back then, we made fun of them!. Did you ever see the episode of 'That 70s Show' when Eric bought a bunch of tickets to a Styx concert and no one would go with him!?
Now, I suppose that there are a lot of Styx fans who would disagree with me and heaven knows, they sold millions of records!. But that doesn't validate them as a great rock act!. I often use a phrase that says, "Millions of flys eat dung, but that doesn't make it taste good!"Www@Enter-QA@Com

The reason why Styx doesn't get the credit you feel they deserve is that they started out with a unique niche in music and then devolved into just another band!. When they first came out with albums like equinox and grand illusion for example, they had a sound that no other band had!. Little by little, that creativity stopped, (basically the Babe/Lady factor) and they just became Journey Midwest!. Add to that the fact that the band mutinied on Dennis DeYoung, (and for good reason btw, as he was turning into Barry Manilow), and could never be consistant with their direction, and suddenly Styx went from being relevent to just another disfunctional band!. Too bad too, because they really had something in the beginning!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
I recall them getting a lot of credit in the 70's and 80's!. That Kilroy album was just stupid though, and that's what many associate with them!. Tommy Shaw, very good guitarist!. Paradise Theater was a classic album!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
