Question: What do i need to learn for jazz band!? [please read!]!?
Hi!. I am playing piano at my school!.!.!. and i was the only freshman to make the top band!.! I am super excited!.!.!. but my band director says to work on my chords over the summer!. Is it possible to learn all my chords over the summer!? Where should i start!? Do you have any book suggestions!.!.!? or is there onoline lessons or something!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Chords are ESSENTIAL for Jazz piano playing!.
It IS possible to learn the essential chords but it will take a life-time to master all the integrate Jazz chord inversions!.
Best thing to do is to find a good website on chords!.
Learn the basics!. All the majors, minors, 7ths, M7ths and a few 9ths!.
If what I've just said is complete double dutch for you, don't worry!.
Try and learn, at first, the Major chords and minor chords in every key!.
For example:
C major - C E G
C# major - C# F G#
D major - D F# A
D# major - D# F A#
etc!.
Then learn the minors!. (like the chords above but with a minor third)!.
If you know some musical theory you will be able to add 7ths quite easily!.
My best advice is to take a look at some sites!. Just search for "piano chords" or something and you should find a good site soon enough!.

One of the best books I've looked at was The Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine!. In that book, the author goes through some jazz theory and how to build different chord voicings!. A free solution could be the Jazz Handbook by Jamey Aebersold!. That book (you could download it as a pdf file) has some thing called a "scale syllabus" that shows you how to spell numerous scales and chords and also goes over a bunch of great musical concepts that a young jazz student should be going over!.
