Question: What exactly is "SKA ROCK"!?
i heard john vesely (secondhand serenade) say that he used to be in a ska band!. but what is that exactly!. i had never heard of it till then!. can you recommend any good bands of this genre!. just give me the myspace link or something!.

Wikipedia says that: "Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues!. It is characterized by a walking bass line, accented guitar or piano rhythms on the offbeat, and in some cases, jazz-like horn riffs!."
Personally i describe ska as fast paced punk/rock combined with a lot of trumpet, horn and trombone sounds, as well as other brass instruments!.
Most ska music is really upbeat and happy, i love it! =]

Personally i describe ska as fast paced punk/rock combined with a lot of trumpet, horn and trombone sounds, as well as other brass instruments!.

Ska started out as a Jamaican dance music in the 1950's and was the precursor to Reggae!. The addition of punk rock was an afterthought!.!.!.something that really didn't come around until the 90's as it became more and more Americanized!.
There are three eras of Ska:

2nd wave (aka 2 Tone):
The Specials
The English Beat
Bad Manners
3rd wave (aka Ska-Punk):
Fishbone

SKA Rock is like a combantion of rock and a bit of Jazz, there is alwayse a cool bass riff in songs!. The most famous SKA band is The Police!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
