Question: Someone earlier asked about depressive/suicidal metal!?
Someone asked about depressive/suicidal metal songs!.!.!.and many of the answers said there is no depressive/suicidal metal songs except emo music and you know!. Well, metal music doesn't seem happy to me!. When I read the lyrics to some metal songs, some are angry and full of hate, some are about being betrayed, some are about being broken hearted, some are about war!.!.!.!.and these were not emo/scene bands!.!.!.!.the bands i was looking at were like death metal, thrash and speed metal!. sooo can anyone explain to me how metal is not depressing!? It's not depressing to me!.!.well it doesn't uplift me, i get pumped up, and i listen to it when I'm sad too!. the lyrics are usually morbid, or about death, anger!.!.!.sadness!.!.etc!. just tell me how is metal NOT depressing, sad, or "suicidal"!?

Every genre of music can be depressing or "suicidal", because people experience those emotions and release it through their music!. Metal is not about wallowing in your own misery, though, and songs about being angry and frustrated and miserable are not meant to bring you down, they're meant as an outlet and a release!. Music is catharsis!. Metal isn't supposed to be whiny, it is supposed to be strong!. When I listen to metal, it doesn't make me miserable!. It makes me happy!. Sure, there are some songs that have even brought me to tears, but they aren't the kind of tears that you cry while sitting around and feeling sorry for yourself like with these shitty "emo" bands!. They are the kind of tears you cry when you know that everything is going to be okay and that you have to metaphorically stand up and fight!.
Obviously, though, not all metal songs are about pain and darkness, there are a lot about love, happiness and the beauty of the world!. All genres of music deal with human sadness, and I don't think metal is any more depressing than say!.!.!. classical!. It is the hard exterior of metal that leads "outsiders" to believe that all metalheads are deeply troubled individuals, but that is far from the truth!. the type of music doesn't determine weather or not it is sucidal or depressing it is only the meaning behind it!. i know what your talking about though yeah alot of metal and death metal songs are about death but some of the greatest musicals of our time have depressing things in them!. look at the sound of musicWww@Enter-QA@Com

The thing with metal is, people don't listen to it to feel depressed!. Thats like saying "Im going to eat this food even though it will make me throw up!."
Some people listen to depressive/morbid metal because it does feel good to listen to!. It makes me think of something a fan said on a Slayer DVD "If they're singing about death, i'm thinking about life!." For some people, its just enjoyment and if you're doing something you enjoy, most of the time you end up feeling better or happy because of it!.
