Other than their general usages as adjectives for melody and harmony, these terms describe variations on the relative minor!.
In harmonic minor the 7th of the relative minor is raised; in melodic minor, the 6th and 7th are raised in the ascending pattern!. In A minor (relative to C major) here are the results
