John Mayer was self taught at the beginning!. He started playing the guitar at 13 after unsuccessfully playing the clarinet in middle school!. He jumped into blues for awhile, but also enjoyed the pop music!. He started playing in bars, pubs, etc!. at the age of 16!. Once he graduated from high school, he worked at a gas station for 15 months, then moved to Boston to attend Berkley School of Music!. He attended for 2 semesters, then dropped out and hit the road with a friend to Georgia!. Shortly after the two fell out because of different tastes in music, and John Mayer continued to play at live venues!. His sound was caught by a record label agency and he was signed!.
Although John Mayer is not old, the internet was not what it is now, when he was in school!. So I'm pretty sure the internet didn't have any involvement with his learning!. It sounds like he listened to a lot of cassettes of Stevie Ray and other blues guys!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

he went to college, i believe harvard, and had a sweet teacher!. you can youtube his professors name but I forget what it is right now!.
