Will listening to music for exteneded periods of time, on a very low volume, dam!

Question: Will listening to music for exteneded periods of time, on a very low volume, damage your hearing!?
So I'm 14, and i'm always called a wimp cause i listen to my ipod on the lowest setting possible, and listen to music at a moderate volume!.

But today, after listening to music for a total of about 5 hours, I think i'm getting ear fatigue, where my ears ache a bit!. I've mostly been listening to classic rock, and heavy metal!.

Can this permanetly damage my hearing!? I'm concerned about it, because i'd liked to go into a career in music, because it's one of the few things i have a talent for, and that i truely enjoy!.

thanks!. :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
This phenomenon, commonly called aural fatigue, often happens in situations exactly like you're describing!. Professional studio engineers get it frequently!.

Don't worry- it doesn't cause permanent damage like exposure to really loud music, like some of your "brave" friends will eventually experience if they don't wise up and set the Volume Limiter on their iPod!.

Scientists think it's more a combination of general fatigue (your brain is doing the same thing for long periods), as well as a lack of loudness change!. Your brain will get tired of processing the same type of sound at the same volume after a while, especially sound with wide spectral bandwidth like distorted guitars!.

Take a fifteen-minute break every couple of hours, or switch to a quieter, ambient track (like an acoustic guitar piece) every now and then-- something with more dynamic range!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think that could damage your ears over a period of time!. i had the same problem and didn't do anything about it, and now as soon as I try to use earphones, or even the phone, my ears start to ache!.
You're still young, so you should really pay attention; you don't want to damage your hearing by the time you're an adult!.

Good Luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

You know, I'm not really sure!.!.
But when you strain your eyes that hurts them, so I guess it's the same thing with hearing!.
I would make it a little louder, I don't know what kind of ipod you have that you can still hear it on the lowst level, lol!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No it will not damage your hearing unless it is too loudWww@Enter-QA@Com
