There are a lot of great speed metal artists out there!. Some of my personal favorites include Anthrax, Motorhead, Metal Church, Judas Priest, Carnivore, Grave Digger, Iced Earth, and Children of Bodom!.
If you're interested in branching out a little bit more than speed metal I'd suggest symphonic metal or Gothic metal, they're my favorite over all and the best artist to give you a representation of them would be to listen to old school Nightwish; especially from the Oceanborn album!.
