Bass Guitars: Four String or Five String?!

Question: Bass Guitars: Four String or Five String!?
I'm just about to get my first base guitar and start learning!.But I don't know if I should get a four string or a five string!. Ive had trouble with regular electric guitars because my fingers were big and would always touch the other strings!. And I'm also wondering if you can still play a five string like a four string!? Will the fifth string just be there as an extra that i could play for fun or for five string songs!? So I need to know what would be good for my big fingers and I want to know the benefits of a five string and four string!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hi,
I'd learn on a four string first!. But that's just my opinion!. You could do fine getting a five string if that's what you'll need later!. But it's always good to get the basics down then decide if you are going to stick with it!. You'll find that there are many more affordable choices out there when deciding on a 4 string model!. Usually the fifth string is for different tuning setups and for more advanced players needing to produce specific sounds with when playing a certain style of music!.

Most (pro) bass players I know do fine with a four string by the way!. They may however have more than one four string guitar and set them up with different tuning for each song in their set when playing live or for achieving different tone during recording!. I've also met some players that use 6 strings in combination with pedals so they can play solo!.

On another note, you'll start to find that there is more to a guitar than just strings!. There are many types of basses out there mainly due to the fact that there are so many styles in which to play a bass!. So decide what kind of music you are going to play, check out the types of rigs the musicians in the bands you like have!. Such as amp set-ups and effects then go down to the local music store and strap a bunch of different basses on and plug in!. A salesman with knowledge can help you figure out the type of bass you want by the sound you are going for!. If you are into punk, you would do fine with a Music Man SingRay!. If jazz is more your style you'll find a Fender Jazz bass more appealing!. The Beatles had the sound of Rickenbacker bouncing along the bottom end of thier tunes!.
In all you have a lot to consider!. But as long as you take your time and look around, you'll find the right bass!.

Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com
