Because they both represented a radical new change in music which nobody had ever seen before!. The Sex Pistols brought punk to the world and Bill Haley was a major contributor to the outbreak of "rock and roll"!. Back then, they probably seemed outrageous to the rest of the world - completely against society and classic music and innocent sorta stuff, and then a decade or two later the sex pistols came along and did it all over again!.
