Can allergies affect my voice?!

Question: Can allergies affect my voice!?
Okay so I have really bad allergies!. Since I moved to Vegas years ago I've been allergic to the dry air/pollen during spring time!. I'm also allergic to many fruits and veggies unless they are cooked!. At night I wake up to scratching my voice sometimes by rubbing my throat together or making this weird frog noise!. I know I shouldn't be doing that but I'm asleep! Does it affect the range!? Cause I did notice my voice is lower then it used to be!. Or maybe cause I'm not a little kid anymore!? I'm in my late teens right now!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Laylah, your range hasn't changed permanently, and your range has probably expanded since you've grown!. It is definitely your allergies!. No question!. And yes, it can cause you to have a lower sounding voice!. Its almost like having a bad cold!.

Allergies have been so damaging to singers, that some have had to cancel singing engagements!. It shuts you down not only respiratory wise, but singing wise!. Since inhaling and exhaling is so important to the singer, because mucus (I am sorry if this sounds disgusting) drips onto your vocal chords, coats them, the vocal chords work harder to make sounds over it!. This causes stress and even causes small nodules on some occasions!. It also causing your chords to swell!. Don't panic though!. As long as you are not constantly singing over it, it will not do permanent damage!. Take it easy vocally, and only sing if you have to until it clears up!. And you clear this up by!.!.!.!.!.!.

Seeing an ENT!. Tell them you are a SINGER first!. That way, they will not give you any prescriptions that will dry you out out vocally!. They can give you something to ease your allergy symptoms!. also, invest in cleaning your sinuses once a day!. It cleans out the impurities stuck in your nasal passages that triggers your allergies!. It looks icky when you first start cleaning them, but you will feel relief!. It helps me and I try to clean mine everyday!. You can use a nose bidet (Neti-pot) or a Sinu-Cleanse squeeze bottle with the nasal solution!.

In the meantime, drink warming liquids like Throat Coat to help with the irritation!. See that ENT and again don't forget to tell him you are a singer!. That should give you some relief!. I know it helped me with my allergies!. My allergies are horrible without aid! I know your pain!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I sing -- and my allergies have been taking a toll on my voice!.

If you have a voice -- but are sore -- you can still sing -- as long as you know what you are doing and know how to work your muscles properly!.

the only time i am not singing is when i have no voice -- then i am resting my throat!.

it shouldn't affect your range if you are sick -- but if you are irritating your throat you could be permanently damaging your vocal muscles!. so be careful!. just like any other muscles in your body -- your throat muscles can be strained!.!.!.but they can also be built up again!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I sing & my allergies effect my singing voice all the time!. I get allergies bad & when i do my voice is kind of scratchy & rough!. Kind of like I have langerious, but only when i sing!.!.!. if that makes since!. It can deffentally effect your range because when my allergies aren't acting up I can get the high notes & I shock myself about how high I get!. But when my allergies are acting up, even just alittle bit, I can't get up to those high notes!.

Hope I helped!
