OK, so you're asking which was bigger back then (disco), and not what was better then, or more enduring (KISS)!. While KISS was a better thing than disco (and I'm not really a fan of either), disco was much much MUCH bigger in the 70s!. I shudder remembering it!. Those were hard years for those of us who love rock music!.
In hindsight, there was some good music in that decade!. Patti Smith, Ramones, New Wave, old rock like Led Zeppelin, newer rock like the young Tom Petty!. But you didn't hear them so much on the radio!. At the time, it seemed like you could not escape disco anywhere you went!. It dominated the radio, it was what they played in the clubs, and it was what you had to dance to with your girlfriend!. I just turned off the radio and listened to jazz for a few years in the late 70s because I couldn't stand it!. And thus mostly missed KISS!.
Bottom line: Disco was a huge commercial success and was unavoidable!. KISS was also a success, but I hardly heard them in the 70s, so I'd have to say disco was bigger!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Just like rap and country today, I feel the two are separate and powerful in their own right!.

Kiss was hugely popular, but unfortunately bands like the Bee Gees and KC and the Sunshine Band (I'm getting nauseas thinking about it) were HUGELY popular as well!.

KISS was huge in the 70's with almost everyone who liked rock!. Disco, on the other hand was adopted by the posuers and your typical trendy following schmucks!. KISS is still here!Www@Enter-QA@Com
