My 11 year old sis wanted me to post this video of her singing on youtube and yahoo!. This was her first attempt at the song!. She knows she has some notes wrong, but she wants to know if the public likes how she sings!. This is her singing Maybe from Annie:

She stays on pitch pretty well and overall sound not too bad!. When she is in full voice it is pretty cutting, which is OK if she is singing in a musical, (which the track sound like anyway) but is not the prettiest placement for singing pop!. also, when she sings soft, the sound completely changes (I'll get to that in a moment) and goes wispy!. She needs to keep the same tone regardless of the dynamic!. also, some of the phrasing seems to drop off!. It sounds like she might be running out of air, so she needs to work on either taking more breaths, or better breath control to match the phrases!.
Personally, I like her lighter voice, when she goes a little "wispy!." If I were Simon Cowell, I would say it sounded "high school musical!." (not meaning to reference the actual play, but referring to the genre!.)
to sum it up:
Pros: good pitch, good since of rhythm and showed dynamics
Cons: Completely different tone during dynamics, voice is cutting and phrases tend to drop off!. Tends to be a little nasally, which causes the cutting through of the sound!.
Recommendations: I think breath support is the number one issue!. She needs to develop strong breathing habits, and keep the sound spinning on top of the column of air throughout the range and dynamic level of the song!. I suggest she needs to figure out what she is doing when she sings soft, and use that voice and placement throughout the song!. It is a much prettier voice and the placement is not nasal, which is why I think it sounds better!.
Over all, I think it is a very good performance, just a few nitpicking spots that can make it better!.
