How to play the bodhran like Caroline Corr?!

Question: How to play the bodhran like Caroline Corr!?
I brought a Bodhran (Irish frame drum) a few years ago but it produces a very hollow, high pitched sound!. When I was watching Caroline Corr, drummer for the band The Corrs, playing the bodhran it was producing a very deep, soft sound!. What can I do (techniques ect) to get that!.
Does anybody know what sort of tipper she uses!?
Any ideas would be great!. Thanks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm not sure how much you already know about the bodhran, but I use a spray bottle of water to spritz the head and then I rub it in with my hand to soften the head of the drum before I play, and thay makes the sound much, much deeper and resonant!. I'm not sure what beater Caroline Corr uses, but I like ones that have a nice, fat head on each side!. I also make sure to place the palm of my hand at different places on the inside of the head to make the tone higher or lower!. Hope that helps at least a little!

Try wetting the skin!.

If it is a goat-belly head, a little water goes a long way!. I played bodhran at RenFaires for nigh on 15 years, in the heat and dust, and I ALWAYS "gave the drum a drink" at least 10-12 times a day!.

Me too, but that is a different story!.

I have no idea what sort of tipper(s) Caroline Corr uses, but I use two: one long, thin one with small knobs for speed and one shorter, fatter-knobbed one for volume!.

Caroline Corr might also be using a looser-headed drum, or one with a thicker skin!.

And thanks for the reminder!. Springtime is RenFaire season, and I gotta loosen up the ol' wrist and give the drum a drink!.

Me too, but that is a different story!.
