Did the brief "cassette era" hurt a lot of musical artists?!

Question: Did the brief "cassette era" hurt a lot of musical artists!?
In the early to mid 80s, I mostly bought cassettes, which, of course, didn't stand up well over time!.

I also notice that a lot of these bands, while good, also didn't stand the test of time as well as they should have!. For example, bands like the Cars and Genesis are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!.

Do you think it's because most of their sales were in a cheesy medium -- tapes -- that affected the perception of their permanence!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
No, I don't think that's why!. I just question the method of selecting and the judgment of the people who are supposed to be deciding which bands and individual artists are worthy of being in the R&RHOF!. The Cars and Genesis should be in the HOF, as should a lot of other bands, that to us would be a no-brainer!. In my opinion, REO Speedwagon and Foreigner should also be in the HOF!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no definately not!. In fact, just the opposite was true!. because the cassette tape player was portable it allowed a much wider listening application to evolve!. the first 'boom' boxes were cassete players, virtually every car had a cassette player in it, all records were released in both vinyl and cassette mediums, which basically doubled record sales!. Remember back then album art was an intrinsic part of consumer motivation!. also the cost of both the record and cassette together was much less than a c!.d!. is now!.
Hall of fame participation is nat gauged by record sales but on the seminal influence that a major selling artist exerted on the genre!. No doubt the artists you mention will eventually take their place there!.
also; cassete tape is still a excellent ,robust storage medium!.
In fact, many people and audiophiles prefer its analog warmth over sterile sounding digital recordings and many artists still prefer recording to analog tape (reel to reel) for the same reasons!.
I still have cassette tapes that are 20 years old that still play flawlessly and sound great! virtually every disc that I own gets to worn out to track correctly after a couple of years!.
so long live the casssette! It has more than earned it's place as a musical medium!
p!.s!. cassettes have been around since the early 70s and thats a lot longer than the compact disc!. So much for your 'brief era' notion!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Actually, they wouldn't have been inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame yet because most of them haven't been around long enough!. I believe the critera is 25 years!. Remember, REM and Van Halen were just inducted last year and the Police and Madonna just this year!. Give it time!.

The reason why you may not see the memorobilia is because I believe the museum relies a lot on the generousity of the artists and their families (or estates) to supply items!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Actually cassettes actually helped some!. For example I had replaced all of my good tapes to cd!. So in a sense, I bought the recording twice!. Now if the music didn't stand the test of time, then it could hurt them, but they are probably not around anyway!. As for The Cars and Genesis not being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that is because that organization is screwed up!. They picked Madonna and Grand Master Flash over The Cars, Genesis, Chicago, and many others!. Its the idiots at the HOF screwing these group, not cassettes!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No, in the early 80's there was still plenty of vinyl!.!. I should know!.!. i have a lot of it!. Cassettes were portable which is why they had a short popularity -they could go where vinyl couldn't!.

And as for The Cars!.!. they still sell plenty of cds and people still hunt for their vinyl!. They were new wave and not commercial enough for the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame!. If you think the Hall of Fame is about the music!.!.think again!.!. if it was about the music, Deep Purple and Rush would already be in it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
