Question: Why do people like metal, screamo, etc!.!?
I love classic rock, punk, alternative, hard rock, the whole deal, but I can't understand what kind of appeal metal and screamo have!. The melodies and harmonies are hard to pick out, the singers randomly start roaring at the top of their lungs, and the whole metalhead subculture is really freaky!. Why do people like the stuff!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's just a matter of personal taste, really!. I hated it at first, but as i started to get into really good screamo stuff (underoath, number 12 looks like you,) it really grew on me!.
One thing about it is that the musicians are very, very talented!. They play some of the fastest music out there, and they do it very well!.
Some people just do it to be different!. There aren't many people who scream out lyrics instead of singing them, so people who feel the need to be "different" listen to that type of stuff whether they like it or not!.
Listen to it some more, and eventually you'll understand!.

I will not speak for screamo, because I do not like it, therefore I cannot defend it!. However, I'm a huge metal fan!.
Considering you like hard rock, punk, and classic rock, I find your question quite odd!. The metalhead "subculture" isn't freaky at all!. You can't understand what kind of appeal bands like Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, UFO, Budgie, Rainbow, and Judas Priest have!? They really aren't that far removed from punk, classic rock, or hard rock!. These were the fathers of metal, the first metal bands, so naturally, they were very similar to the 3 genres that you do listen to!.
Back to the sub-culture, I'll give you a little briefing of it!.!.!. I grew my hair long, I wear pants that fit (what most people would consider "tight" nowadays), a leather or denim jacket, and sometimes (but rarely lately) a bullet belt around my waiste and/or I'll wear a studded/spiked/bullet wristband!. Sometimes when I wear my biker jacket, I'll throw my cut-off denim over it, which is adourned with band-related pins and patches!. I usually wear a band t-shirt too!. Nothing freaky so far right!?
I'm passionate about this music genre, so I hunt down often times obscure bands through magazines/fanzines, the internet, friends in-the-know, or at shows!. Anything freaky about that!?
I've also got my hands wet in the scene by booking shows, interviewing bands, and reviewing shows/recordings, and starting a distro/label!. Freaky!?
Heavy Metal to the music world is like Horror movies to the film world, so naturally, a lot of us dig horror movies!. Is that freaky!?
Any real metalhead is passionate about the music he/she listens to, so we take our love for it very seriously and verbally defend our music against common people's interpretation of it!. I!.E!. - "Slipknot is NOT Metal!" Because of our strong passion for metal, we seek out records and merch through independent record stores across the world, and mail-order distros!.

All through jr high & high school, Ozzy was my main influence & still is (his older stuff) after high school I was introduced to the death metal, & was hooked on pure speed & nothing else like Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, etc!.(it was the friends I had) but my favorite band & still is would be Slayer-maybe I'm getting old & listen to a variety of rock music I grew up to depending on my mood-(I've always liked what my parents listened to when I was a kid but kept it a secret back in my "wild days"-50's/60's/70's rock) & 80's metal was my main influence through school!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well pretty much all screamo stuff sucks!.!.!.!. The emo Screamo I mean, Like alexisonfire, but you cant say metal sucks!. Your saying bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath all of those legendary metal bands suck!? its just a misunderstood type of music that can not easily be appreciated if you haven't heard much of it!. It may take a long time for you to warm up to it, but as soon as you do, there's no turning back!. No, some metal bands use melodic vocals!. Not everyone sounds like Cannibal Corpse!. As for harmony/melody in the instruments, it's there!. You can hear them quite clearly (IMO) in alot of Pantera songs!.

i listen to a variety of genres all around!. quite diverse

i agree!. it makes no sense lol!. I have heard songs like that that do have good melodys, etc!. Atreyu and Bullet for My Valentine have some!. But im more of a alternative rock/punk kinda guy lol!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
