You who do not play the melody, don't you get tired of just "accompanyi!

Question: You who do not play the melody, don't you get tired of just "accompanying" !? Cellos!? Tubas!? Cbass!? etc!.
Addressed to orchestra members: Isn't if frustrating not to be playing the melody - only exceptionally -!?

Or do you feel satisfied about being the great basis for the rest of the instruments !? Please explain what do you feel and think!. Thanks!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Cellist here!.!.!.!.!.!.The basso continuo is not an easy part to play!! The notes may be easy but keeping track of where you are is very difficult!. (for me anyway)!. I use to call it the "mozart syndrome" where each line looks the same so you end up skipping lines or repeating them!.!.!.!.!.But as someone else mentioned, during the Romantic period on, us cellists get our share of interesting parts!. I remember playing some Dvorak that was in violin range!.!.!.!.and Mahler!.!.!.!.!.nummy!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I am a tuba player in an orchestra!. Once in a while, when we are playing a piece with incredible melodies, I do get a little bit jealous, but the parts that we play are just as important!. The low brass usually gets the loud, bombastic parts, which I love!. also, the tuba, string bass, and bass trombone weren't necessarily built for speed!. Last week, I was in rehearsal and the first violins played something so fast that I couldn't believe it!. The bass trombone player looked at me and said " thank god we play low brass" When you play solos on low brass, winds, and string, its really beautiful though!.

So, to officially answer your question, I do feel satisfied playing the parts that were written for me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Depends on the period!. Mozart can get a bit tedious!. But Romantic composers really give the cello section some juicy harmonic roles either as support, counter melody, supporting moving lines (Listen to a Brahms symphony)!. And, as a cellist, I always love the 'cello section's' solos!. They're very defined in an orchestra because cello has that very particular ability to sing out as a section for very dramatic effects!. Composers always take advantage!.!.!.*rubs hands together* I LOVE it!. So no, I love playing cello in the orchestra!. I love playing cello in quartets!. It's pretty much a kick butt instrument everywhere!.

I was listening to LvB's 5th this morning on the way in to work!. What struck me most about it (how timely is your question!!?) was just how important the "inside" parts are!. Yeah, we all know the melody it's grand and glorious, but the counter parts are very musical on their own!.

!.!.!. nothing would be as frustrating as being an Alto in a church choir!. Pages and pages of Eb!.

Sorry, I played flute in H!.S!. so I don't really feel your pain, 'cept I was second!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alto Sax!.!.!.and yes I totally agree!. Unless the songs are jazz, I end up playing harmonies or just really long notes!.!.!.it's kind of annoying because on sax it's difficult to play quietly enough to blend!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

bass clarinet here!.!.!.!.and yeah!.!.!.playing long tones during slow movements and down beats during marches gets rather boring!. however, i do appreciate when i am needed and the tambre of my instrumentWww@Enter-QA@Com
