Yeah Lamb of God is one of my favourite bands!. I virtually worship their drummer, Chris Adler!.
So far, they have realeased two good albums in my opinion - "Sacrament" and "Ashes of the Wake"
Don't get me wrong!. I like all of their albums and all of their songs!.
And yes their drumming definitely sounds a bit different in the other two albums!. I don't think the problem arose from studio recording; maybe Adler just tuned his drum set to low!. If you noticed, the 60s and the 70s bands like Zeppelin or Def Leppard had a damp sound on their drums, because their sets were tuned to low pitched sound!. Whereas, most modern bands, as in Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy tunes his bass drums to high, and so you can hear the crisp, high pitched sound!. In fact, almost all metal bands do that so that they can keep up with the tempo of the song!.
