What has happened to real music?!

Question: Music these days is so pathetic, there is literally no skill involved...it's basically 4 chords per song by these boy "rock" bands like Green Day or whatever is playing on the radio. There is absolutely no talent or no appreciation to the actual power of music. These bands are just trying to become as big as they can by writing "catchy" lyrics with "cool" chords. No solos, no expression of feeling in their playing. What has this world come to?
Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton to name a few...why can't music be like that anymore? The only noteworthy new bands I know of are The White Stripes, The Darkness and Wolfmother. Please don't even bother responding unless you know anything about music.

Once the emo/pop punk/nu metal music came along most of the good music went away...from the radios and mainstream TV, at least.

Basically, people know what sells, so they copy it. There's nothing new and original out there right now, at least on the TVs and radios. Right now you have to dig a little deeper to find good music, but it's still out there.

You have to look past the stuff you hear on the radio these days. I gurantee you that if you lived in Europe, you wouldn't be saying that. Europe is way more passionate about Rock music than America is today. Here try some non mainstream bands such as Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica, Firewind, Heavenly, Epica, or Kamelot and tell me what you think of those bands.

To me it seems that people today do not want quality in their music only quantity. So they give up the fact that it is not good music to go along with the crowd and not feel left out.

Just try to stay away from the mainstream. I think that's what most of us are doing anyway. There are plenty of great bands out there..you just have to dig deeper for them.

Audioslave is pretty good too.
there are good bands that play "real" music, only no one knows about it because they,re not the ones who are on the charts.
people go for image over talent these days, sadly.

You just need to know where to look. Screw mainstream, look for the bands that don't get the attention they deserve.

"Please don't even bother responding unless you know anything about music."
I don't think I can even begin to tell you what's wrong with that sentence.

Still around.

You just have to dig beneath all the Bullcrap on the surface.

The REAL rock and Metal scene is alive and well. I've been introduced to some VERY good bands since I started on this site about 2 weeks ago.

Even some "mainstream" bands like Velvet Revolver and Evanescence are actually very wel crafted, musically.

It's in a slump right now. Someone's going to bring a new sound to the world and it'll have meaning to it. Like the late 80's. People went crazy over hair metal (which was more about image than sound) then the next year grunge was the sound everyone liked. We'll get over this no-talent era.
