Am I the only one who's sick of all this ignorance about the term "emo&!
Question: Honestly people, bands like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance aren't emo, nor anything even close to it. True emo is an offshoot of hardcore punk, played by bands in that scene who wanted to play something with more emotion. Hell, Black Flag is closer to true emo than Fall Out Boy, and that's not an insult.

it is clear you are uneducated and really doesn't know how the world works. Yeah that is what it may have started out as. I am sure there are a few people out there who think that emo is what you have described it as. But that is not the way the world works. If a definitions over takes most of society then that is what it will be. Let us just take the word gay. It meant happy not to long ago. But society has decided to use it in another way and has re worked the definition. So now it means homosexual. So it is with emo. You will pretty much have to accept the idea that words change. Now so I don't get a bunch or crap about how you are talking about music and I am talking about words. I mean the term emo as you have stated is used to apply to music like Fall Out Boy, and what not. Also take hope in the idea that with whatever you say emo really is that " a rose by any other name is still as sweet."

Calm down - the definitions of various 'genres' change all the time. Compare modern r&b to traditional rhythm and blues. Drum and bass.... ska....

I know there's the whole scene fashion thing but there really hasn't been a true emo band in years.
I don't have a favorite emo band. But my favorite band close to what people would call emo now is AFI. Preferably old AFI, who were punk. Now they're alternative rock and have scene kid hair.
You mean, Minor Threat? I think the term 'EMO' should be altogether eradicated. I mean, the offshoot of hardcore you speak of could be best summed up as Straight Edge, which yes, is a genre of music as well as a lifestyle. Just get out of the "Emo" ward and let's all go home.
