I have to say- this is one Rush album I'm still trying to fully appreciate. After all the pre-release hype about it being their "next 'Permanent Waves'", I was Very psyched before it came out. Then I got my copy........& was underwhelmed.

I like a couple of tracks. Esp. the single "Far Cry". But none of it Really stood out in a big way for me.
I spun it again. I have never had to *work* to get into a Rush album before until this one.

I keep saying- as of the last 10 or so years, they've been staying in too safe of a corner doing "verse-chorus-verse-solo-chorus" songs. Too predictable, & less guitar attack on S&A. (NO recent Rush truly sounds like Rush of old)

I prefer the previous album "Vapor Trails".

Having said ALL that.....*your* mileage may vary. :)

Yeah, I agree with Fonzie T... once again! LOL :)
That album isn't their best and I also find it too repetative and find myself bored with monotony after a very short time ;)

For me this has been a real hit-and-miss album. There are three instrumentals on it, including a very nice acoustic piece by Alex which is a good change of pace. My favorite 2 songs, "Far Cry" and "Faithless" are staggeringly good; in my opinion, they make the album worth buying, even at full price. The production on it is much cleaner than on Vapor Trails - beautiful articulation between all the instruments and Geddy's vocals. In a way, some of the sound is in the spirit of the early albums - a real focus on just guitar, bass & drums. Geddy is getting better at selectively using keyboard riffs, patterns and sequences. Just wish a few more of the songs were as memorable as the band's best material.

Like Fonzie, heard all the hype surrounding S&A before it's release. Bought my copy the day it came out and still trying to get used to it. My impression thus far is that it has certainly not lived up to the hype. It isn't the best cd Rush has ever put out. Of course if you look at some of the reviews on amazon.com, they'll have you believing it's the best thing Rush has ever put out. What I would like to see for the Rush studio album would be a)The return of Terry Brown as producer b)longer songs, the "progressove sound" just seems to completely missing

DUDE!!! Don't listen to these people!!! BUY THAT ALBUM!!!! It's just as good as anything that did in there early years, if not better!!!!

The album is absolutely amazing!!!!!! However, you will need a few listens to fully appreciate the magic behind it.
And no, the songs are definitely not like "Working Man" or "Fly by Night."
