The Ramones vs. Green Day?!

Question: I love both bands..

But Green Day do more for me.
Dan C's answer was really good.
And TafKam's answer really horribly and very very wrong at times.

The Ramones, hands down.

I like them both

The Ramones for the entire career.

If you want the best band while they were in their prime, I'd say Green Day for Dookie, Kerplunk, and Warning, but American Idiot makes their whole career a hell of a lot worse.

Easily The Ramones. Green Day's older stuff is good, but I'm not a fan of their more recent work. The Ramones kick *** =]

Call me crazy but I'm not a fan of The Ramones. So Green Day it is.

The RAMONES - Billie Joe dates men .

Ramones.. and quick fun fact.. my 2nd cousin is Richie Reinhard (Richie Ramone). I've seen lots of videos when he was a kid like playing basetball. He's not really connected with too much of the fam but its still cool.

vanman

i like green day better.....

what kinda crap question is that..Ramones.. i dont like Green Gay!

I can't wait until Green Day die in a plane crash. Although they would be the first untalented band to die that way. Then I would not have to hear of any more contest concerning a good (not great) band against an always inferior product such as Green Day.

If you want to compare them to Jonas Brothers. I will break off my fingers so I will not have to answer that one. (too close to call)

The Ramones never sold out!

What the f*ck?
how can you even compare the two?
The Ramones for sure!

I think my head is spinning from the absurdity! Lol

And my answer would obviously be the Ramones.

DEFINITELY the Ramones. hands fracken down, man.

anyone who says GREEN DAY is getting thumbsies DOWN.

Thats like saying "Hmmm, I wonder....should I choose between a stick in the eye or a piece of cake?"

The Ramones, obviously.

The Ramones by far, but green day got alot further at the height of their career. When all is said and done though... The Ramones all the way.

green day isn't terrible, but the ramones win this by a wide margin

The Ramones. [[cough cough]] obviously.

Grrr... I dont really like either one I'm afraid.
Too poppish/lyrical for my tastes ;(

***Oh, I did hear a song today at work and was shocked to find out it was Green Day... it totally has a different sound then their old stuff and the instrumentals were amazing. I'll see if I can find a link and post it for ya :) :) :)

THe RAMONES!!! BABY

The Ramones, >insert witty comeback here<
@->-->-

THE RAMONES!!!!!!!!! green day sux

the ramones

duh

The Ramones. You'd have to be INSANE to pick Green Day over them.

I like both, and think Green Day is treated unfairly, but I'm still going to say the Ramones for sure. Very easy choice.

Green Day has made heir fair share of great poppy punk songs with catchy hooks that deserve their credit, and the comparisons between the two bands are valid. However, the Ramones were doing it in '74 when those sounds had never been heard before. They're both good bands, but I do prefer the Ramones music by a pretty large gap and plus they get extra points for being astonishingly original. When Green Day started there was a template for their kind of music already (partly crafted by the Ramones), given they mastered their art, but there was still a template. The Ramones influences were all great bands and artists and you can hear that influence, but they really took that and made something new. Plus, when they weren't doing pop songs they made hard hitting straight forward punk songs that just has more balls than Green Day's music.

So yes, the Ramones get my vote by a long shot, but they ARE my favorite band afterall.

definately the ramones

You Can't compare contemporary bands with essential bands. Green Day probablly wouldn't even exist if there wasn't for the Ramones, Sex Pistols and The Clash. And you must know a fact that ppl often pretend not to be true- The Ramones ARE NOT A PUNK BAND.Explanation: PUNK movement(revolution) started off in London, England in 1977, and The Ramones formed in NYC around 1974. Therefore, they're not a part of the punk rock movement at all. The Sex Pistols and The Clash, who are the very first punk(or punk-rock )bands ever to come to life, claim The Ramones , New York Dolls, The Stooges and The Patti Smith Group the foundation to their music and sound(punk). The Buzzcocks, Damned,Vibrators, Exploited, GBH, all appeared a little bit after The Pistols and Clash, idolising those two a lot.
Of course, music is exclusively subjective, and a matter of taste, but, for instance, The Rolling Stones wouldnt sound like they do if there wasn't for Muddy Waters, Ledbelly and Robert Johnson, wich are all genuine black delta blues musicians. Ledbelly, eg, was born in 1888. Keith Richards often claims-quote: 'you think you finally got a hold of playin' the blues, and then you listen to that one and only Robert Johnson record for the 1000000th time, and realise you'lle never sound like that. '
However, I personally like The Stones much better, and I cant help it, but I'm always aware of the facts, and I value those African-American bluesman a lot.
Just the same, I really think Black Sabbath are a doubiously talented bunch, I think their lyrics are lame, etc, but I love Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, Nevermore, Megadeth etc., who all claim Black Sabbath as their main idols and even a reason they all started their bands in the first place.
So-no contest. Prefer watever you want, but do not neglect history!

i'd have to say the Ramones

Green Day sold out and commercialized an entire genre.

I like the Ramones way more because they seemed way more punk.

Greenday almost has a gothic/glam feel to them

Green day. End of conversation
