Hello Joseph,
My suggestions r straight bcz I'm too a music composer and I express what I like as being composer (music director).
1. Once u should know first of all is no music composer like the mimic singer. I mean u should not match ur voice to ur favourite singer. U should have ur own melody.
2. You should atleast have some information regarding any one instrument if possible, like what r notes? what is a pitch? what is a scale? and all, the basics.
3.U should know that what a singer hears as his voice is different from what actually it is in the mic. So once record ur singing on PC and try to analyse.
4. U should have better experience on the stage as a singer with other musical instruments.
5. U should know some breathing techniques and anti-breath techniques while singing to avoid un necessory sounds.
6. Remember track singing is totally different from live stage performance.
7. U should have more range over the scales and notes and even depth at the bass.
8. U should have unique expression while singing any song, I mean don't copy others expressions but try to put ur own feelings like smiling, sorrowness according to the situations.
9. U should know the distance of mic that matches ur voice should vary according to the high pitch, I mean less distance while singing low pitch and long when singing high.
10. U should know whispering style of singing especially a melody and attraction which is maintained and only secrete of great singers.
11. U should remember that ur words at the starting should be punching the speakers while holds should be smooth.
12. If u want still more suggestions regarding ur voice please record it on pc and send to my email in mp3 format and I will send comments over it after analysis.
And I also send back ur voice in processed state, i.e., how it can be heard after all processes in a studio.
If u dont understand anything from above please email me or add my ID to your yahoo messenger,
Thanking You,

practice it more...

practice makes EVERYONE perfect

Ok first you need to practice practice practice. Then you need to stay focused on what your singing. After that just stay cool and not try to sing in front of big crowds. good luck

Choose what type of vocals you are best at... Rock, metal, melodious numbers, classical, tenor, choir, etc. Or even plain screaming-aloud (don't know which genre that is, but audience love it :-) ) Concentrate on that style. Don't try to be good at all of them right now.

Record your voice in a studio solo. You can do it for hourly rates. Get opinion from professionals. (The studio people can help you with that. Get your band members assessed too at the same time for instruments and vocals.)

If you're still not satisfied then you need training from the experts. There are trainers available these days for all genres of music. You can also pick up Audio and Video instruction CDs as a second option.

Good luck...

practiceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ...

Focus on what techniques, physiologically, make different sounds. Learn how to create vibrato, falsetto, and other vocal techniques (you can find info about this if you search on Google or youtube). Study your favourite singers and practice emulating them -- not just the words and the notes but *every little thing* they are doing to create the sounds they're making... how they phrase, the timing, etc. Once you've practised all of that, you will be able to arrive at a singing style all your own. And sing out! Don't be reserved or it will inhibit your presentation. Steve Marriott, Bowie, Chrissie Hynde, Lennon are all classics you should familiarise yourself with.

With great singers, it isn't always the quality of the voice (think Bob Dylan, Tom Waits) but the delivery that is key, and that resonates with people.

P.S. You can learn a lot from the Motown and jazz singers as well, even if you aren't going to be playing songs of those genres. Smokey Robinson. Mary Wells. Sarah Vaughan.

Riyaaz ...............
It's something called in hindi which you must be knowing.......
daily practice early in the morning

correct and constant practice will help you become a better singer.
