Do you think the Descendents started this whole EMO thing?!

Question: I hate emo but I like the Descendents. Does anyone else feel this way?

Holy Moly...putting Descendents in the same sentence as the ridiculous word "emo" is like...like sacrilege. Unless used in either of these contexts:

Descendents is not Emo.
Emo is not Descendents.

I guess my take on early Emo is a wee bit different than everyone else's. I thought it was started with music like Rites of Spring (which became Fugazi, also early emo) and Jawbreaker (which became Jets to Brazil, also early emo) in the late 80's. Then kinda moved along to become Weezer, The Getup Kids and Jimmy Eat World in the late 90's. Before the eyeliner and tight pants, the fad was sweater vests, horn-rimmed glasses and chucks. Then somehow, when all our backs were turned, it went ugly and morphed to become the monstrosity it is today.

No, that's ridiculous. The Descendents couldn't have possibly started it. I love the Descendents but only their old stuff. The new stuf is whack.

The emo thing started in the 90's. Sorry, but wearing black clothes, dying your hair black, black nailpolish, etc, isn't new. Been around for awhile, under different names. they're just calling it 'emo' now.

If anyone can be credited/blamed (depending on who you ask), try The Cure, who've been emoting with makeup since the late '70s.

oh hellz no.
oh HELLZ no.

no
From somewhere between Depeche Mode and Rites of Spring came the emo

I thought the Descendents were skate punk, which is pretty far from emo. Are we thinking of the same band, or are there two bands with the same name?
