King would agree with you. Honestly, even though I love the first couple Slayer records, there really isn't anything special about that band. They weren't much different than a lot of other thrash bands coming out at the time, and for the record, "Reign In Blood" is the most overrated metal album of all time. I was writing those riffs when I was 14, before I even heard a Slayer record.
I favor King....the fast riffs he writes are totally insane...Downing can solo better though no doubt
KK Downing, I love Judas Priest.
King goes faster, uses the tremolo bar randomly, and barely knows his scales. But he's still an amazing riff/song writer.
K.K. is an amazing guitarist and would go in my top three metal guitarists. Anything King has ever used has come from this man.

Ken (KK) Downing is my personal fave. Kerry King is simply a hack in comparison - well in ANY comparison really. I never liked Kerry King. He's what i call a "Simple Noise" player. I'm sure others will disagree, though i argue that leather spikenail armbands do NOT have anything to do with great guitar...

Maybe Downing has an edge because King doesn't know music theory.
But I like King's playing better.
