What kind of guitar should I buy?!

Question: My husband is wanting a guitar for his birthday. He doesn't play the guitar so I need one he can learn on. I know nothing about guitars! I was wondering what I should look for? Thanks in advance!

If you're planning on getting an acoustic guitar, I have had good experiences with Takamine. Almost all of their guitars are good, even the cheap ones ($100-$250). I also own an Ibanez acoustic that I really like, it cost about $180.

If you are planning on an electric guitar, I would say go with a Gibson or Fender depending on your price range. They have probably the most versatile sound for their starter models. If he wants to play hard rock or metal, get an Ibanez.

When you are buying a lower end guitar, pretty much all you need to know is to stick with name brands: Fender, Gibson, Martin, Takamine, Ibanez, Yamaha, Godin, Ovation, B.C. Rich, ESP, Jackson.. to name a few.

depends on the amount you wanna spend on it. you can drop 5000 bucks for a great guitar, but that's prolly not for someone who doesn't know crap about playing.

If he wants an electric guitar, I'd suggest a Fender Stratocaster. Its a classic, its easy to play and you can find one for a reasonable price. They can't be more than a few hundred dollars.

Gibson SG red
perfect, it's classic if your looking for an electric one
(be sure to get an amp and a lesson on guitars too!)

electric

Its always easy to learn on an acoustic guitar - they sound and look great. Or if your husband is more serious about learning, you could go for an acoustic electric? They're slightly more expensive, but are really handy.

You should buy him a Fender Stratocaster, or a Gibson, Gibsons are for Jazzy and blues sounds, and Fenders are for more rock. Dont buy a fender Squire though, theyre cheap in price, but suck. Or you can buy him an acoustic guitar if he preffers that, but theyre not that fun.

I've always wanted a Schecter Omen 6 .. but its not a begginner guitar,,. I would just get something cheap just until he learns .maybe an acoustic-electric.]

Right now I own a Takamine Jasmine model and it has a fantastic sound and it only cost me a little over two hundred dollars.
Good Luck !

If you buy an electric guitar then you will need to buy an amplifier. A good used electric guitar will set you back anywhere from 300-500 hundred dollars. An amp will probably run the same amount. Talk to the salesperson and tell them exactly the skill level of your husband and the price range that your willing to spend. Most music store salespeople are musicians themselves and are more than willing to help you find a happy medium.

one that feels good in his hands.... take him shopping... he is best to try some out...
