Epiphone VS Ibanez?!

Question: Okay so I am getting a new not-that-crappy guitar for my birthday as opposed to my crappy one. Which is better generally, epiphone or ibanez?

I suggest you sit and play every guitar that you are interested in that is in your price range. Don't let a salesperson make the decision for you! Their help is often appreciated, but you are the one with the invested interest in it.

String action is important, but practically every guitar's action can be worked on. Is the guitar is to work on yourself if you get to learn that aspect of being a guitar player.

What kind of fretboard wood feels good to your fingers and sense of it's playability. I prefer rosewoods and ebony over maple personally.

If it is to be amplified, plug it in and listen to the quality of the pick-ups. You might like the single coil sound, but how much hum and noise is the pick up putting out and can you live with it?

Are the knobs and switches in a good place for you?

How heavy of a guitar can you put up with around your neck when you are playing? I have a Les Paul Custom that sounds awesome, its heavy solid wood helps that along, but many complain about it's weight.

Is the neck bolted on or through-the-neck? Bolted on is easier and cheaper to replace if something goes wrong on the neck end.

Ibanez is a large company, it should not be a this or that question. Some Ibanez go for thousands of dollars. Epiphone is not usually too expensive, and I think may be still a division of Gibson which might make it American made if you check. That might be important to you.

Try not to buy a guitar online, the same 3 guitar models in one store might feel different to play across each one. If you love playing and plan on doing it long term, the best thing that you can do for yourself is play a lot of the guitars in person until it feels right.

i dont play guitar but i was thinking about getting one and my friend told me ibanez is a lot better

I have an Ibanez acoustic/electric & it's awesome!

Personally, I would prefer an epiphone. I have an epiphone les paul and I like it very much. But, it's all about what you're looking for in a guitar. Everybody uses it differently. You need to find out what you don't like about your old guitar, and do your research.

Really, it all depends on your personal tastes. If you want a more "general rock" (quoted because this is an opinionated label), then Epiphone is probably more for you. However, if its metal or just hard rock, you know, crunches, crazy sounding highs, better harmonics and pick ups, go Ibanez.

Personally, I'd go Ibanez. Its amazing for the harder stuff, and frankly, it does plenty good on regular rock too.

Get an Ibanez mate, epiphones are lame unless you spend alot of money on them.

if i had money to buy a les paul type, id buy the gibson.

ive decided its no good for me to mess with epiphone unless one drops in my lap...

now, Ibanez makes some dang fine instuments. I own one and am looking at another. It seems to me im getting more bang for my buck...of course my shops buy-back policy may have a huge amount to do with that...but they make some very sweet thru-necks that have got me very interested.

my guitar teacher loves them and has played them for "20 years"...some big name guys use that gear.

i would very much like to own a les paul....but in the meantime... i really dig me an RG Prestige from Ibanez...page 14 2008 catalog...

I personally like epiphones.
