[Important and easy 10 points!] Could someone interpret this song for me please?!

Question: You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!

Racism and hate isn't something that occurs naturally; it is something that is learned.

Isn't it kind of self explanatory?

This song was in South Pacific and deals with the origins of prejudice.

In the play/movie two US service people (one man and one woman) each fall in love with people and have to confront their prejudices. In this song they are talking about the source of their prejudice...that you have to be taught...to fear and suspect other people who are different from you on the outside (race). This is the source of their conflice, to exorcise that teaching, and to be able to love another person for just themselves.

Things to be careful NOT to teach your kids, or anyone else's for that matter. It's all about things that are ******* our society up!
