When do I play guitar chords vs. notes?!

Question: When guitar music is written, it has both the notes on the bar as well as chords written above the bar. How is it played? Do you play the chord first and then go to the notes underneath? Do you play either the chords or the notes for the song? I started learning the guitar and I can't find anything about this. Any experienced players out their who can give me an answer

The Chord is written in as accompaniment, meaning that when you see a chord above a section of music, then you could have another guitar player playing that chord as you play what is in the bars, they are included for that very reason.

The chords correspond to the notes.

a chord is a bunch of notes played at the same time. so when there are a bunch of notes played at the same time, play them all...and you have a chord.
