Resting hand on guitar ok?!

Question: Hi,
When I play guitar, I have the tendency to rest my little finger just below the bottom e string(the e string with the higher pitch) on the guitar. This gives me some confidence in knowing where the which strings are where, but I don't know if this is an ok practice? What do you think? Is it going to cause me some difficulty in learning new techniques in the future, and I should just force myself to keep my hand floating above the strings.

here I am with my handing resting

if you do this with your picking hand, it should make no difference in the playing of your other hand.

the only problem you might have is in strumming, but a few minutes of practice can work that out. you dont have to float your hand above the strings, thats a pain, i just rest the side of my pick hand on the bridge, but not directly on the strings.

play around with different styles, you'll find one that suits you best.

can't see your pic!

it might be a little hard
are you left handed? you should have
confidence im a left handed guitar
player who plays with a regular
rite handed guitar and i hit wrong strings

as long as you're hitting the right strings and producing a good tone, it could be an accepted practice. I have a tendency to rest my thumb on the bass pickup on my bass guitar just for support, and because I get a nice not-to-bassy-but-not-to-trebely-sound.

It's what ever feels comfortable, after time, I found keeping your little finger in use and ready is a good thing, a little 4 fret stretch comes in handy.
