Most famous violins (ie Strads, Guaneri) that are played today are loaned to famous musicians. For example, Midori's violin is on life-long loan to her.

You can make false harmonics along with the many many real harmonics on a violin string using the physics of partials.

With a pedal, you can make a violin sound like an electric guitar.

Even the smallest crack can change its sound.

The mark violinists get on their necks is called a 'violin hickey'. (At least I call it that...:-P)

A famous violinist once lost the last two fingers on his left hand so he had a special violin made and learned how to play it with his right hand fingering and his left hand bowing.

Some people still use gut strings (on period pieces/instruments)

They have gold strings. (Kinda reminds me of gold teeth though...)

It, along with the cello, is perfectly proportioned for the length of its strings while the viola and bass are not (hence the difficulty in getting a nice tone on them).

It has a wolf tone. What this means is that when that note is played, a synergy is created—the top, back, and air cavity produce an excess of vibration that cannot be sustained, leading to the characteristic fluttering or wailing of the wolf tone. The tone is the frequency of the violin's fundamental pitch.

well that not only could u play boring songs but also really moving songs like to dance lol

ummmmmmm... if u slide ur finger down the string while playing it sounds weird?

Well, there's this spot called the harmonic. It's in the exact half-way point of each string. If you just barely put your finger on it, it makes a really cool sound.

That they have to kill cats to make the strings?

that my teacher has a $3million violin from 1750

When the temperature changes all of a sudden they get out of tune (a lot).
The bow is made of horse hair - cannot be touched because it will get oil from fingers onto it and won't sound good.
Old violins are usually more expensive.
If you paint a part of it the sound will get distorted...so don't paint it ;)
Most of these are true...some of them I heard from my tutors so they probably are right :)
It's weird how you think you know lots about a violin and when it comes time to actually think up something interesting...I'm stumped.
Good luck on finding cool violin facts :)

that you can mute the violin with a peg or sth holding the bridge of the violin. well thats how i do it, if its not right, and it does sound muted
