Is Grunge and Emo the same thing?!

Question: Which one is cooler?

I'd have to say Grunge is cooler

Answers: Which one is cooler?

I'd have to say Grunge is cooler

I agree grunge is cooler, but I would actually compare emo more to Nu Metal since they are both an abomination.

No, they're not the same thing.

It's not really about which is cooler, though, is it? Grunge is better in my opinion.

not the same i like grunge more :)

Not at All...Grunge music usually consists of a artist with a hard Raspy Voice.

I enjoy Grunge
Nirvana and Pearl Jam very good Grunge bands....

...Grunge and emo are not the same thing at all. In terms of style, grunge is more torn jeans and lanky hair whereas emo is more darker colors and androgyny. In terms of music, the most famous examples of each are Nirvana for grunge and My Chemical Romance for emo. In terms of attitudes, grunge has a more laid-back stoner outlook of life. Emo, which also stands for emotional, is a little more dramatic and angsty.

My personal opinion is that grunge is cooler.

Why would you ask, if you already have an opinion? And no they are quite different. Grunge music has been around since the early ninties with acts like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Candlebox and Alice and Chains. Emo is, in my opinion, a relatively recent phenomenon and some weird mix of goth and punk or something else, i really don't know. It's like comparing apples and oranges

grunge is like nirvana and its almost like they they just woke up and its 3:30 but emo is like im special and my problems are important

They are dramatically different!
Grunge came from Seattle, Washington, along with starbucks (although grunge is actually cool) and started in the late 80s/early 90s.

Think of Nirvana and Pearl Jam when you think of grunge.
Think of your hemp sweatshirt and lazy, comfy clothes. Think of dreads and beads.
I think of greasy hair and Courtney Love as well.

When you think of emo, which really took flight in the last 5 years, think of My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, and fake bisexual teens.
Think of big, dramatically layered hair. Think of tight, skinny clothes, and in either dark or incredibly bright colors. Think clean, with heavy, pretty, bright makeup.

Very different indeed.

No there different, grunge is more ripped, sagging clothes and emo is really tight skinny ****. Grunge music is more rebel type, and emo is I hate my life.

Idk grunge is cooler, but not if its like the really hard core I don't shower kinda grunge

Is Retarded and Stupid the same thing?

No. they are not. Grunge is a 90s form of noise rock, emo is essentially either **** like FoB or almost metal stuff like Alexisonfire

No they arent the same, they are bolth wierd though

I agree and for proof, just try answering something with MCR........ see how many thumbs down you get :) LOL

No at all. Grunge is a sludgy metal sound mostly following the style of Black Flag's My War album. Emo is usually broken up into two parts: New Emo which is basically crappy hardcore interpretations, Mostly the "Emo" seen on mtv and Old Emo is completely different. After many in the original hardcore scene of the 80s got tried of the pointless violence and aggression, they moved on to play music with more eclectic influences and better song writing then there old hardcore realm. See Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Real Estate and those type of bands. Just on a personal note I think the grunge scene was never that grand and outside of the orginal starting bands not that good.

Psshh, heck no techno! grunge is nirvana, and emo is all that screaming mellow dramatic poppy crap you see on mtv these days

lol no there not the same thing you can tell the difference if you listen to both types of music. well i don't know which is cooler it depends on what type of music one is in to. i like almost all types of rock.

EMO is a style of rock music which describes several independent variations of music with common stylistic roots. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon. (In more recent years, the term "emotive hardcore" entered the lexicon to describe the period.)

Grunge is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged during the mid-1980s in the American state of Washington, particularly in the Seattle area. Inspired by hardcore punk, heavy metal and indie rock, grunge is generally characterized by heavily distorted electric guitars, contrasting song dynamics, and apathetic or angst-filled lyrics. The grunge aesthetic is stripped-down compared to other forms of rock music, and many grunge musicians were noted for their unkempt appearances and rejection of theatrics.

i would definately have to say that grunge is the best one out of all of them. but emo can be ok

Uh, no. Emo's shower, fool. And do laundry. And their hair.

But besides that, I like the emo style better than grunge, if I had to choose. After all, which one is cleaner? Plus the whole "emo music" thingy is better than grunge. (Though I like some Nirvana).

i like em both
but emo is better

OMG, are you high son?

You should be beaten with a tire iron for asking that question.

No they aren't the same thing. I used to be grunge, I never wore makeup, slit my wrists, or MADE OUT WITH GUYS on a stage and claimed I was straight.

grunge is the godfather of emo

grunge and emo arent the same... dont like either to be quite honest

i totally agree with Eddie...grunge is the godfather of emo XD

BA HA HA! Grunge and emo are totally different! Although they are both cr@p! Oh yes..im a metal fan!
