I Often Have This Problem With Artists Such As Nas, Little Brother & Talib Kweli!

Question: After a while all of there songs seem to run together and sound the same. I am not questioning the talent of these artist but their creativity seems to leave something to be desired at times. I tend to be more impressed with artists such as Outkast, Gnarls Barkley, & even The Cool Kids if i want "get fresh music". My question is do you think this is a valid point, and what do artists need to do to avoid this "running together"?

I think this comes down to a personal taste thing. I don't see it myself - but music's subjective like that.
I guess if your talking about subject matter, then it might help to not listen to them all too often, just when you're really in the mood.

Nas, Talib, "running together"; you've got to be kidding me.....

running together?

i dont get it man

i don't really agree with them "running together". they do have a distinctive sound, yes, as do outkast and gnarles barkley, but the range of songs they do is quite dynamic. all the artists you mentioned have more intense, high energy songs and more chill songs, and everything in between.

Nas is actually quite varied over the years. Run Illmatic, Stillmatic, God's Son, and HHID and tell me they all sound the same. They don't. Now, if you had said Canibus, I'd have bought that. He had only one sound and one style and one presentation during almost the entire run of his career. But Talib doesn't really do that. It sounds to me like you don't like the production.

I disagree I think there just different styles.

good question....i believe that there is not much creativity coming from these artist b/c look at the industry now....there is not much to work w/ since many listeners have their mind set on the crap out today....its like they are taking break to make a comeback or they just to have that creative outlet anymore....look at outkast which are my main squeeze they have changed atleast their lyric content's, they have admitted that they dont care no more b/c the industry is garbo right now....andre all de does is sing now lol, but their beats still stay funky....."the coolest muthafunka on the planet"

. . .
I dont particularly agree

And if any ones songs sound the same I would say The Cool Kids (I like em but I gotta be honest)

And not that Nas, Little Brother and Talib Kweli's songs sound the same it's just that they have their particular style of music

I dont know about you but I dont think I want them to switch it up, there awesome just the way they are

i dont seem to hear them run together but i understand you, they jus need ta come wit they style and some new ****

I Disagree Too, Everybody Got Different Tastes =]
But I Think The Cool Kids Are Great Too Man =D

If you look at the material collectivley the cool kids have 1 album, gnarls barkley just released their 2nd acouple weeks ago. I dont really feel they had a chance to 'run together' yet, after 2-3 albums they'll be played out. On top of that, Idlewild and speakerboxx run together for me, I probably wont even listen to those albums again(just going off your examples). I think I get what your trying to say tho.. Maybe your jsut used to those particular artists (Nas, LB, TK) sound and flow so you arnt as impressed and your looking for something more out of them. Even still its an invalid statement--Nas and creativity..? (i.e. 'NY state of mind','I gave you power','one mic', 'get down', 'who killed it') all off different albums, all have a different feel, and all show consistent creativity.

nas, little brother and talib songs sounding alike and running together? kinda unlikely
but individually, their songs may be hard to tell apart for the casual listener since their style is consistent with most songs
it sort of takes a little getting used to, the music shows its beauty to a trained ear. especially talib and little brother. with nas its really hit or miss for everyone, its either you hate his style or you love it

what?
