Is this a good thing??!

Question: Is constantly wanting to play the piano a good thing? I have recently been practicing alot and have re-discovered my lost love for the piano and how beautiful it sounds. Do you ever miss your piano when you are away from it for long periods of time?

It's a good thing to have a passion in life. Especially a passion for music. Doesn't it feel incredible to make such beautiful noise with your own hands? I played an instrument in the band for all of my younger years, and have had the same feeling as you. I miss playing it, and I did almost immediately. I played the saxophone, so it was much nicer for me to be part of a larger group, like the wind ensemble. However, playing the piano, I imagine, is almost like having your own musical ensemble. You are able to produce songs that sound complete all by yourself. It's enough to please a crowd, as much as bring enjoyment to the one playing.

I believe there is nothing in life that can replace music. So, if you like to play the piano, then PLAY! You will not get that sense of fulfillment from anything else. You may like to do many other things, but they cannot bring the same joy, because they are different. I recommend to you to continue doing what you love. It is definitely hard to be away from something that you love.

I really relate to this question.

Yes, it's happened to me. I quit cello for 6 months when I was 17 to study for college and prepare. I was miserable and when I came back I never stopped. Now I find that since I have more free time being out of school, I realize that I really love to practice. I practice during times before when I did homework. I'm really realizing that music is for me. I though tI knew before but I didn't.

But that's really amazing that you found your love for it. It's a really intimate thing, practicing. I almost feel like my instrument is alive. She even has a name. :) Dotty!

Yes, of course. If you have a desire and the talent to make music, then it's natural that you will want to play as much as possible and miss playing when you can't.

Congratulations! Welcome ! It is only natural to miss playing the piano at times..and feel very happy when you play...
I miss playing even if I am out a couple days!! I feel something is missing..I bet you feel the same.

Even if practicing sometimes gets hard and boring...after a little while, I re-take it and everything is ok.

Yes, you are one of us ! Good, good day and good luck !

I sold my Fender-Rhodes Mark II electric piano about a year ago before I moved to Chicago. I really really miss it now and I want to find another one. I have been searching on ebay but have had virtually no luck. No other electric piano will suit me, it has to be a Fender-Rhodes.

I miss my bass clarinet so much during marching season

Yep, I fell the same way especially about my violin, when I am gone for 2 or 3 days I really miss it. It's my baby.
