If you want dark and bold you may want to try
Schnittke's Concerto for piano and strings

Keep listening to Russian composers (Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov to name a few) and you'll run into that "sound" again.
Wagner and Brahms (some Lizst) also have that type sound in a number of there compositions.

Definately Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade. You might also like Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky(orchestrated by Ravel). This has some very dark movements. Some other composers to check out would be Wagner, Beethoven, and Brahms. You've probably heard some of their music before. Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps and the Firebird are also very bold(and loud!).
I suggest looking up some of the other pieces by the composers above. You will definately come across some music that you really like. The cool thing is that when you begin listening to classical music, you see that there is so much variety, and you begin to like it more, and you can't get enough! Enjoy!

I agree with all the suggestions. Continue on with Rachmaninoff and any of the Russian Five. Balakirev, Cui (not my fav), Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin. Then also Tchaikovsky, Brahms, later Beethoven, Stravinsky...
