KRS One. But you are not allowing for a true answer when you say simply "who's better?" but tell answerers not to consider anything but lyrical skills. Jay is nice but he is one of the most boring artists I've ever seen on stage. KRS One is one of the best I've ever seen on stage. Oh by the way Jay is old school too.
You have answered your own question. It's KRS-1, hands down. His lyrical content is ridiculous, and as long as he has been rhyming, he will shut any new or old skool rapper down in 2008! Do you see his fan base? He still sells out concerts today, and it has nothing to do with his popularity. KRS never fed into the fashion statements and all that, he raps about important issues and puts a hard beat behind it. To this day, nobody is rhyming like him. So, there is no comparison between him and Jay Z. Jay Z is what mainstream radio wants, very commericial, very flashy. KRS-1 is on a totally different level. He is the teacher and Jay Z is his student...

I like both old & new skool but i think jay is better he has flow no other rapper has ever had. i dont care if he wears sandals or if he can't preform well on a stage, i just listen to his lyrics. " Do you listen to the music or ust skim through it "
KRS-one~ yo this cat is so lyrical, i herd him do a free style over classical music and that sh!t was hot.... he talks about real topics and issues... that are deep.... and hes one of the goats!!!
jay~ is a legend n his own rite... u really cant compare these two not jus bcuz of the different time periods they rep but bcuz there styles are very different and they both are 2 of the best at what they do.... but KNOWLEGE (still) REINS SUPRME OVER NEARLY EVERY-ONE
