check out john butler trio, dispatch, dave matthews band, bob marley, counting crows, robert randolph and the family band, tom petty and the heart breakers, i know they are not all new but when i'm chilling out they are a few of my favorites

Feist and Colby Calliet (sp?) are really mellow. Also, if you have heard the new Panic At the Disco cd, it is really mellow and relaxing. Nine in the Afternoon is a good one. If u have heard patd before, it has really changed...so give it a shot.

Cannibal corpse are a rally good mellow band, lots of rape and murder, something you can really chill out to.
I recommend Ratatat, Chromeo, Tokyo Police Club, Spoon, Kate Nash, Maritime, and Andrew Bird.
Also, Stars of the Lid and Lemon Jelly are really mellow and slow, but it might be a little too slow for a trip to the beach. It sounds a little different from what you're looking for.
