What's your opinion on the state of hip-hop?!

Question: People say it's dead, I do not agree. It's still alive and doing well, it's just changed a lot.

It makes you think Nas used it as a gimmick.

I think Hip Hop is suffering as far as unloyal fans. Artists are not gonna be around as much as they may have been because of the lackluster sales so they make ringtone singles and most of them are quite annoying. Overall, good music is still being made.

mainstream-pitiful
underground-outstanding

its been dead for the last 4 years

Hip Hop has a state?

jk itz okay when lupe kanye or common are around

but
N!gger, king mathers will be HOT!!!

i think if nas didnt name his album Hip Hop Is Dead, we wouldnt have to deal wit all the followers everyday

Mainstream is ruining its rep to the outside world.
Underground prevails, and thrives.

Is the state of hip hop near the state of Florida?

I agree with Eason, he used it as a gimmic to get everyones attention so his album sells. Just for calling his album that.

Hip Hop is alive because we have artists like Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Eminem. the Hip Hop is dead stuff was just Nas' way of creating shock value same thing with his upcoming album N*****

i think hip hop died not just rapn but the whole culture i think it gave its last breath in 2004

It doesn't have anything to do with Nas' album. I don't even own that album. Older heads have been saying this for years, waaaay before 2006! In my opinion, Hip Hop is *not* dead but it is in trouble. Hip Hop doesn't belong to "the people" anymore, it belongs to the money-hungry corporations lookin for a fast buck. Just listen to Lupe's "Dumb it Down", that pretty much explains the problem right there.

It comes back to life when he is putting out an album, so he can make money. Duh

Its got too mainstream and most of it sucks. Which is sad because its like watching your best friend going down hill. Not even guys you could always depend on, have good stuff out. To much of mixing R&B and singing, to much songs about partying and how hot girls look. I don't what to hear a poorly put together conversation of how some chick is a 10, I had enough of that in HS. Its like now a day you hear one rap song you hear it all.

Its like the producers or who ever, i don't know who to blame all they care about is getting a hit, and they take the easy, lazy route and make another stupid GENERIC a^s song. I'm so tired of it. Its all about the money now. I'm sure many record labels are searching for the next Soulja boy. Rather then find the next Jay Z.

Of course its not dead, because people are loving it, but need a defibrillator, bad.

it's not Completely dead. some new artists that are underrated are keeping hip hop alive. hurricane chris, kanye west, 50 cent, lupe fiasco, and others are just few that are keeping hip hop alive. but the majority of hip hop artists are ringtone rappers, and that's not good.

i would type more, but i'm IMing a friend right now.
