How do I make a Euro/ Techno song?!

Question: How would I make a Euro/ Techno song? What software do I use and how do I make the beats? For example, when you listen to the song, "Now Your Gone" by Basshunter he hear the beats, which sound very cool. How do I make those beats with and without having the vocals in the song?

thanks

Contrary to common belief, it is not easy to produce a solid EDM, or as you have labeled it here, a Euro/Techno track. First, you will need a studio or a virtual studio on your computer such as Cubase, Ableton, or Pro Tools. Reason is also pretty good for beginners although it does not support VSTs which arguably puts a limit on it's capabilities. The learning curve for these programs can be very high. You will need to design sounds using VST instruments or the synths included in Reason. There are numerous tutorials online about using synthesizers and Ableton comes with its own tutorial on how to use it. There are two major kinds: AM and FM, AM being easier to use in my opinion. A keyboard/midi controller is useful as it will let you play the notes directly into the computer instead of drawing them into the sequencer. EDM is not limited to any particular beat pattern so be creative as this genre is saturated with similar tracks. Innovation in this genre tends to be gradual. You don't find many tracks that are completely revolutionary since there are so many people figuring out new things that contribute to the genre as a whole incrementally. The most CRITICAL components to an EDM track are the mixing and equalization. Some engineers spend years getting this straight. Many of us figured it out ourselves but you can also take classes on mixing and equalizing. An un-equalized/improperly mixed track tends to sound muddy and disorganized (unless you're using very few monophonic instruments that don't occupy the same frequencies). While you're producing, make sure you compare your music to that of professionally produced tracks. Many times, you make a track that you feel sounds very good only to find out it sounds like crap when you compare it to productions by more experienced producers. The mixing and equalizing are permissible criteria to judge tracks. I'd say 90% of tracks that are submitted to me lose five points immediately for lack of production quality.
