The bands dont neccesarily have to be from that place (a band from your kitchen hmmm) but their music gives you a feel of that place.. :)

Africa-- Queen (I don't have a real explanation for this one)

New York - Unfortunately U2 (I like U2 in general, but I really hate the New York song.)
London - The Pogues (Lulliby of London)
Australia - Men At Work
California - The Breeders (they just sound so beach-y so. cal to me)
Africa - Paul Simon (Jumps straight to mind. Graceland is one of my favorite records). Also Fela Kuti, but he's a jazz guy.
Kitchen - ...interesting. Rocket From the Crypt keeps coming into my head pretty randomly. No real logic to it, but I guess I'll run with it.
Beach - The Breeders for the same reason as CA, but to shake things up a bit I'll go with the Silver Jews. A buddy of mine had a birthday party at a beach house, wow I guess it was about 11 years ago, and the day after about 4 or 5 of us sat out on the rocks (it was a rocky beach) and listened to them smoked cigarettes and soaked in the day. It was a beautiful day after a really great party. Great day.

Australia it's Midnight Oil as Diesel and Dust was first coming out when I visited there.
California - The Red Hot Chili Peppers as half their songs these days seem to be about it.
Africa - hmmm? Steven Osito Osidebe is the only one to come to mind, he's not rock but the tribal beats are pretty flawless.
My kitchen? Spoon. Or Apples in Stereo. Or Meatloaf.
And the Beach? I'm thinking of Jane's Addiction as we listened to a crap load of them during beach parties in college.
