How can I stop singing like a freakin 5 yr old?!

Question: Okay so whenever I hear other girls singing on youtube, they make their voice sound THEIR voice, like their "talking voice." You know what I mean? How can you make that happen? I already have a mature voice n stuff..So how can I stop singing like a 'm in a 10 yr old girls choir? UGH! Cuz when I sing, I feel like I'm sucking in y voice or something.

There are a couple of important things. One is to keep your soft palate raised so there's enough room in your mouth for the sound to actually reverberate. If it's not raised, it squashes down the sound. Another is breathe support--you need to be sure that air is moving from your lungs through your vocal chords fast enough to give your voice "oomph." A third thing would be to try and sing into your "mask," which means try and direct the sound into the front of your face, around your sinuses (not THROUGH your nose, mind you). This also gives the sound more room to vibrate through. Then there's good posture, always a must. Why don't you try signing up for a couple of voice lessons? Any good voice teacher can help guide you, then you just need to practice. It's something you learn just like playing a musical instrument.

But maybe you just need to find your style. I had to come to terms with the fact that I would always have a "pretty" voice and never be a belter, I could never holler out the blues or anything. Try to learn to love your voice for what it can do for you, not hate it for what it can't.

Lip synch

there should be a difference between your talking voice and your singing voice... it's a conscience switch and i have a kind of deep voice for a girl but i can sing higher than all the sopranos in my choir.... it's just the way your vocal chords work

Plug your ears and sing away, who cares how you sound to others haha as long as you sound good in your own head who cares!! Giver!

Have you been to a credible voice instructor? They should be able to teach you more about your "mix" voice...

Have a voice lesson...

I love to sing, and I have different tones of voice I sing in.
Sometimes I sing like the voice I talk in, sometimes I sing really high like a kid or something, but I think the key is to find a middle. I find I sing best when I sing something meaningful to me, or when I just love a song and can't control myself.
Listen to a song that is like by a singer who can reallllly sing, get into it.
Belt it out!
You might just be surprised.

If you are like realllly bugged by it.
Go to a piano, and press the keys, and try to get your voice to that pitch, it can help.
whistle with a tune and try to get your pitch right.
I think Pitch is the problem, and not being able to control your voice and get it to go in the direction you want it to.
If all else fails, a voice coach could work. But try these things and see.

Actually, some of the BEST singers out there have singing voices that sound appreciably different from their regular speaking voices.....richer and/or sometimes more refined. When a singer 'sounds younger', sometimes it means that they have pitch problems, are sort of nervous or unconfident, or perhaps aren't singing loudly enough or from their diaphragm. Without hearing your voice, though, we can't really say what (if anything) you are doing wrong. I'd either recommend letting us hear your singing or talking to a voice teacher. For all we know, you might actually be good.

No 5 year old i ever knew was ever Freakin!
