For fans of The Doors, what did you think of the movie made by Oliver Stone?!

Question: First of all, The Doors are one of my all-time favorite bands. As for the movie, I think it had its moments and thought Val Kilmer's portrayal as Jim Morrison was good. I can understand how sometimes movies based on real-life can't be totally accurate in order for it to be more like a movie instead of a documentary but what really bothered me about this movie, how it portrayed Jim Morrison as somebody you couldn't wait to die. I wish it showed why he was a great musician and what made him a big music icon. I know he had his bad points but Oliver Stone overly exaggerated them to the point where it didn't do the band any justice, which the surviving members themselves admitted they were disappointed with the movie. Oh well, there's always hope in the future for somebody else to try and give it a better shot. Most movies today are remakes so why not? LOL!

I have very mixed feeling on the movie. I think that it is good because it brings in new fans, and makes people know about The Doors. But as you said, the movie did a very bad job in their portrayal. I think that there are multiple personalities in Jim and the Stone movie only showed the drunken asshole, they didn't show the sensitive intelligent person. I do not really blame Val for the bad portrayal because he has to act the script that he is given. In times, I thought that Val could be a pretty convincing Jim, like in the beginning poetry thing where he says, "Come on now, no music, no Doors. I do think that Val lost Jim's voice and way of speaking though, which I find to be an important part about him. I dislike the movie because it twists certain events such as the Ed Sullivan Show where Jim says higher. In the movie, they have "Jim" scream out the line, as if saying to the people that he is "rebelling", but in real life, The Doors play Light My Fire as they usually do, not emphasizing the line but still singing it. Another thing I dislike about the movie is that they rarely show the other band members, which is of course, 75% (or maybe more of the band) I guess they are a few good things to the movie, I still watch it sometimes, but purely for entertainment value I seriously don't even think of The Doors when I watch the movie, I like to think of it as totally fictional, which it basically is. But as much as I complain about the movie it is still good that The Doors got some recognition, and it does make new fans, although I am not totally sure if they like The Doors and Jim for the right reasons. As for the remake, that may be interesting, but it may also stray away from the facts, as most movies based on real events do. I always thought a younger Johnny Depp would make a good Jim...

I love there music but i didnt care for the movie much

I liked that movie. I don't really care how he was portrayed I just thought it was a good movie

I saw it in the theater.. and was totally stoked to see it. I was very disappointed. I thought not using the original Doors music was lame. I didn't like the way the rolled up people into one character. As I remember there was a scene with one of his chicks and they had her do things that according to the book *No one here get out alive* were actually done by other girls in his life. I guess they needed to save time, but I found it annoying.

You're right though, they do remake movies... so you never know.

I loved the movie, as soon as I found it I bought it after I rented it one time. I agree that it didn't do Jim Morrison justice but it actually opened the door for the Doors for me lol, I got into them more after the movie. There was a lot of kind of pointless nudity but I guess thats kinda how things were especially with the "Sex God" Jim Morrison lol

I thought the movie was pretty good.. Kilmer was amazing as Jim morrison and the movie was fairly accurate with the timeline and people etc.. It also showcased his talent as a poet. I was alive then, young but I remember the tragedy of his death from over dose.. It happened daily back then, but never slowed anybody down.. I believe poets and artists like him don't enjoy life.. they are in severe depression often and in terrific pain that we cannot fathom.. i think of Vincent Van Goh who killed himself.. brilliant and lonely and depressed..
Sometimes those kinds are too bright for this planet and just never really fit here.. Morrison hated the spotlight.. kind of like Kurt Cobain Sad.. they wanted to make their music but without the fame part of it..

Love Morrison, love the Movie.

Who cares what the rest of the band thought? The Doors were a one-man band.

The movie follows pretty faithfully the bio "No One Here Gets Out Alive" by Danny Sugarman. Yeah it does portray Morrison as well...a dick, but it seems fairly well sourced. It didn't diminish my enjoyment of the band's music one bit.
